Enormous fisheye lens mounted on a block approximately 1m high and 50cm on each side
Built in 1979 by Stephen McAllister and Brent Watson (Yale Bright Star Catalogue) in Salt Lake City.
Fisheye 43mm f2.8, 160 deg. monochromatic green
A laboratory prototype of Digistar was used to generate the star fields in the science fiction film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Filming was done directly from the Digistar display in the lab from November 1982 to February 1983 (Wikipedia).
