- 1968: then-president of General Motors Canada, R.S. McLaughlin, founded the planetarium, donating two million dollars toward its construction.
- October 26, 1968: opening ($2,250,000)
- November 5, 1995: closed (cut budget) and 6 million visitors
- 2009: sold for $22 million
