History
- May 1971: 8.5m/60s/Minolta MS-8
- July 1992: closed to renovations
- January 17, 1994: destroyed by earthquake (closed during 3.5 years)
- June 6, 1997: rebuilt: Digistar II Drescher donated $530,000
- February 8, 2020: Drescher died and left $1.5million to SMC
- Fall 2021: project new Science Building with planetarium and observatory
- Summer 2025: closed old planetarium
- Early 2022: start work new Science (LEED) building
- November 14, 2025: inauguration new planetarium in the new building (with observatory)
