- 1974: purchase Zeiss (HK$3million)
- 1977: construction (Joseph Ming Gun LEE architect)
- October 7, 1980: opening, 23m/365s/Zeiss VI-A, OmniMax (first in Asia)
- 1995: new dome
- 2004: renamed Stanley Ho Space Theater
- 2008: 600mm interactive observatory (Lady MacLehose Holiday Village, Sai Kung)
- November 2008: closed for renovation
- July 1, 2009: reopening: Digital 8K Sky-Skan, seats,
- July 2012: 3D
- October 2015 to April 2018: exhibition and Sky hall closed to renovations
- 2017: observatory on the roof
- July 1, 2021: reopening: NanoSeam dome
